First Trailer For Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice’

Here’s the first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson‘s new film Inherent Vice, which is based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon.

This does a great job of setting up the basic story beats right at the outset in a manner that is funny and effective, and which aptly communicates the tone of the novel. And then it gets a little goofy.

And that’s great, because Inherent Vice should be a little bit goofy, and a bit weird, and downright unpredictable.

Those who’ve read the novel will spot many little flourishes and visions in this trailer that suggest that PTA has at least hewn close to the spirit of the book.

And for those who haven’t read the novel, we won’t yet give away all the meanings behind the bits of this Inherent Vice trailer. Just sit back and enjoy it.

Based on the Thomas Pynchon novel, the 1970s-set film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a drug-fueled detective in Los Angeles trying to find his missing ex-girlfriend. It co-stars Josh Brolin, Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson.

“Inherent Vice” will hold its world premiere this Saturday, Oct. 4, at the New York Film Festival before opening nationwide on Dec. 12.

Justin Bieber Is In Full-On Romance Mode

Justin Bieber has been using his Instagram lately to send one clear message: he is head over heels for Selena Gomez. We’ve already chronicled our own stages of acceptance about the couple’s rekindling, and ooh-ed and ahh-ed over the various adventures of Jelena since they started hanging out again.

But this latest pic from Bieber’s feed feels particularly poignant—it’s a romantic, fuzzy shot of Selena literally stopping to smell the roses.

It’s an adorable and touching moment that captures a certain sense of mystery and seriousness we don’t often see from Jelena.

But he couldn’t let Selena get all the attention and shared his own somber black and white selfie later in the evening:

We couldn’t be happier they’re back together if this kind of adorableness is going to continue.

George Clooney, Fiancee Amal Arrive In Venice For Wedding

George Clooney, 53, and his British fiancée Amal Alamuddin, 36, arrived in Venice on Friday for their weekend wedding extravaganza, accompanied by loved ones and trailed by a clutch of photographers who recorded their passage along the picturesque Grand Canal.

The couple waved to fans as they were whisked past St Mark’s Square and the 700-year-old Doge’s Palace in a water-taxi, aptly named “Amore” or Love.

Accompanying them on the launch were the groom's parents and Cindy Crawford, the former supermodel, and her husband Rande Gerber.

The water-taxi took them to the Hotel Cipriani, which is expected to host a dinner for the couple’s friends and families tonight, before a grander wedding reception at the Hotel Aman, right on the Grand Canal, on Saturday.

And The Winner of 'Big Brother Season 16' Is

After 97 days, a million alliances, and that moment when you realized that Victoria was going to make it to the Final Three, the 16th season of Big Brother has reached its senses-shattering conclusion.

Since everyone from the Jury to Julie Chen to the narrator seemed to realize that Victoria wouldn’t triumph, it all came down to the Hitmen. Would the winner be Derrick, the puppet master who never went on the block? Or Cody, the Travolta-lookalike who functioned as Derrick’s sidekick/ally/blunt instrument?

Derrick won the final vote, capping off one of the greatest strategy runs in the history of Big Brother.

Never nominated for eviction, never making any openly aggressive moves, never revealing to his closest ally that he was a member of secret chaos squad Team America, and never revealing to anyone that he was an undercover cop by trade, Derrick seemed to be inventing an entirely new way of playing the game. Call it The Man Who Wasn’t There.

The season finale of Big Brother 16 is finally here and we now know who is the winner of the 2014 season!

Is Miley Cyrus' Latest Art Hinting at a Broken Heart?

There's nothing like a good doodle session to vent your frustrations.

It looks like Miley Cyrus had a lot on her mind recently, at least that's what was evident after the singer shared one of her latest art creations with fans on Instagram. "early a.m. drawin," Cyrus captioned the picture, which was a drawing of a crying alien that had numerous thought bubbles surrounding it.

The sad and broken-hearted creature says, "I must go. I will miss yiew," while thinking things like "why does love make me cry," "gravity has nothing to do with me falling for you," and "what are these wet, salty drops coming from my eyes." (But seriously, there are so many more!)

Is someone suffering from a broken heart?!

She followed with another yet far less emotional alien drawing, but this one wasn't thinking anything about love and instead just occupied itself by blowing bubbles.

Miley has definitely been feeling artsy lately, and most recently made a hilarious contribution to the meme world when she got the idea to Photoshop her baby head onto 13 of her raunchiest concert pics, music video stills and other photos from recent months.

The 21-year-old pop star decided to make the memes after she found a silly childhood pic of herself rolling her eyes to make a funny "over it" expression.

Indian Super League Football Schedule 2014

The IPL-style Indian Super League is slated to be the biggest step yet to put Indian football on the international map. Set to take place in the relatively quieter months of September & October later this year, here is everything you need to know about ISL.

It is quite a shame that a good chunk of Indians came to know about ISL only after cricketing icons Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly won bids for Kochi and Kolkata soccer teams. It is evident that the Indian population has little interest in football, let alone football leagues. Did you know that India has an existing football league? Called the I-league, it is the premier Indian football league at this moment.

The ISL might change the status of the I-league, and with popular figures showing interests in the game, it might just help Indian football put itself on the international football map.

A joint venture by IMG-Reliance and the AIFF (All India Football Federation), the league takes its cues from the much-popular cousin, the Indian Premier League, and is an initiative to get some quality football exposure to the local players, whilst bringing a number of well-known international football stars to play in India.

In January 2012, it was indeed a fascinating sight when a full-fledged Bayern Munich team played against the Indian national team, and the reception by the fans was outstanding in what was to be Baichang Bhutia’s last match in the Indian colors. So, the idea of bringing in some good international players, to play actual football games (not the friendly ones) will definitely be well received from the die-hard football fans across India.

A Supermassive Black Hole Is Found In Tiny Galaxy

A supermassive black hole was discovered by NASA in what is believed to be one of the smallest galaxies known to man.

According to NASA, the supermassive black hole was seen by its astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope on Wednesday, when they found the small galaxy known as M60-UCD1.

The dwarf galaxy reportedly "crams 140 million stars within a diameter of about 300 lightyears, which is only 1/500th" of the diameter of the Milky Way galaxy.

It is the smallest and lightest object that we know of that has a supermassive black hole.

"We believed this once was a very big galaxy with maybe 10 billion stars in it, but then it passed very close to the center of an even larger galaxy, M60, and in that process all the stars and dark matter in the outer part of the galaxy got torn away and became part of M60, Seth explained. "That was maybe as much as 10 billion years ago. We don't know."

"Eventually, this thing may merge with the center of M60, which has a monster black hole in it, with 4.5 billion solar masses - more than 1,000 times bigger than the supermassive black hole in our galaxy. When that happens, the black hole we found in M60-UCD1 will merge with that monster black hole," he added.

The existence of the supermassive black hole is reportedly rare as such conditions have only been previously seen in larger galaxies and prompts researchers to believe that there is a chance that there are more black holes in the Milky Way than previously discovered.

Beyonce pregnant with baby number two? Bikini says ‘NO’

Oh, did you know that Beyonce and Jay Z have just been on a huge world tour? You might have heard about it among the divorce rumours, elevator fights and pregnancy speculation. That they probably started.

But now the On The Run tour is over the couple can relax. There are no more tickets to sell so they can give their fans a little break from wondering what the hell is going on in their relationship.

Last week, Jay fuelled rumours that his wife was pregnant when he changed lyrics to ‘cause she's pregnant with another one' during their Paris show.

Cue Beyonce then stepping out in front of throng of paps with a ‘protective' hand over her stomach. Simple yet effective.

Yesterday, however, Bey uploaded pictures from her 33rd birthday which she celebrated in style on a luxury yacht and an island so fancy and sunny we've probably never heard of it.

In these pics she showed off her absolutely flawless bikini body. Yup, it's the Beyonce bod we're used to seeing, amazing curves, stunning skin - and a really, really flat stomach.

Now we're no doctors, but experience tells us that flat stomachs are usually something pregnant women don't have.

So, well done Beyonce, once again you've managed to start, fuel and then end a rumour with even saying a word. Oh you media mastermind, you.

Of course, there is always the chance that Bey is eight months pregnant and waddling around in a bikini, and tricking us all again. Apparently, she's a fan of photoshopping her social media pics, if the comments on Twitter and Instagram are to be believed. Ahem.

Which will be the next Beyonce rumour we wonder? We reckon she should start one that the other members of Destiny's Child are actually her children. That would be cool.

Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Trying For Baby Number Two

While promoting the Kardashian Kollection this week on Australia's Today show, Kim Kardashian admitted that she would absolutely love to grow her family with Kanye West in the near future.

"I hope so. We're trying," she said. "I guess it's all in God's hands."

Isn't that exactly what Kourtney Kardashian said earlier this year? And yes, she's now expecting baby No. 3!

With Kanye's Australia tour dates complete, perhaps the romantic twosome will now have a little bit more time to plan things out.

In the meantime, Kim is perfectly content with her small, but always stylish, family. When asked if Kanye influences her outfit choices, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star couldn't help but praise his artistic brain.

"I think he definitely influences me more. I just love the way he dresses," she said. "He is a great designer and he gives me amazing style tips."

She added, "I haven't worked with a stylist in the past two years!" Way to go Kim!

And behind all the red carpet looks and fancy accolades (hello GQ Woman of the Year), Kim continues to put family first!

"I think it's changed me so much," she admitted to Today. "Everything is put into perspective and nothing really matters besides spending time with your family and only doing the things important to you."

Team USA Routs Serbia To Win FIBA World Cup

The United States romped to their fifth basketball World Cup title after overcoming an early deficit to overwhelm the tournament's surprise package Serbia 129-92 in a one-sided final on Sunday.
That doesn’t matter. They had stopped listening long ago.

All the questions about their talent were brushed aside as easily as their opponents at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

“It kind of was, again, again, a smack to our face, saying the U.S. was sending the B-team to go play in the World Cup,” said U.S. forward Kenneth Faried, who plays for the Denver Nuggets. “Just because LeBron’s not here, Kobe’s not here, (Kevin) Durant’s not here, doesn’t mean anything. We can step up and win the gold, too.”

Kyrie Irving made all six of his three-point shots and scored 26 points, and the United States repeated as world champion for the first time by beating Serbia 129-92 in Sunday’s final.

The Americans, a collection of NBA players, shot 57.7 percent from the field, outrebounded Serbia 44-32 and made a mere eight turnovers.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Irving, voted the tournament’s most valuable player, was 10 of 13 from the field. James Harden of the Houston Rockets added 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting.

The United States (9-0) won each of its games by at least 21 points.

“I think the results were dominant, but we had spurts of dominance in a lot of games,” said U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski, best known as Duke’s coach. “And we had tough games and then all of a sudden we’d have a spurt and it looked like we dominated.

“Tonight we had, like, about a 35-minute spurt.”

President Obama Declares Napa Earthquake A Major Disaster

President Barack Obama declared a major disaster in California on Thursday because of last month's Napa Valley earthquake, releasing emergency federal funding for the state.

The White House announced the move in a statement nine days after Gov. Jerry Brown sent a letter to Obama requesting the declaration. Brown declared a state of emergency for California shortly after the magnitude-6.0 earthquake on Aug. 24.

The White House didn't say how much money may be available, but a preliminary assessment by the governor's office found $87 million in earthquake costs that could be eligible for federal reimbursement.

Funds for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the earthquake is available on a cost-sharing basis for the state along with some tribal and local governments and non-profit groups, the White House said.

The quake was the strongest to hit the San Francisco Bay area since a magnitude-6.9 quake in 1989 and did broad damage to Napa County and neighboring Solano County.

It broke water mains and gas lines and sparked gas-fed fires that destroyed several mobile homes. The worst damage came near the epicenter in downtown Napa, where a post office, library and a 141-room hotel were among 150 homes and buildings deemed unsafe to occupy.

Napa County has estimated overall damage from the quake at more than $400 million, much of it to the area's famed wineries.

The quake's first death did not come until Wednesday, when a 65-year-old woman died from her head injuries more than two weeks later. Scores more were injured.

Censor Board Not Too Keen On Song From ‘Khoobsurat’

With the Censor Board of Film Certification become more and more sensitive to what Bollywood’s filmmakers can get away with, the next film to come under scrutiny is the Sonam Kapoor starrer ‘Khoobsurat’.

The censor board had a problem with one of the songs included in the film. Titled ‘Maa Ka Phone’, apparently they made the assumption that the song could be passed off as an offensive song and decided to have it reviewed further.

Haven taken around 10 days to clear, the song was finally able to air on TV screen last week. The source went onto add, “The track was submitted for clearance to the CBFC 15 days ago, but due to the recent chaos in the Censor Board it took a while for the makers to get the song cleared.

It was eventually cleared by the RC which was a day before the song hit the TV screens last week.”

Also starring Fawad Afzal Khan, Kirron Kher and Ratna Pathak, ‘Khoobsurat’ is set to hit the silver screens on 19th September.

Elizabeth Hurley Plants An $81,000 Kiss on This Guy

Elizabeth Hurley Kiss
How much would you pay for a lip-lock with Elizabeth Hurley?

Well, if you're Julian Bharti, then you're willing to put down a whopping 50,000 British pounds (or $81,591.75) for the chance to have a mini makeout session with the brunette beauty. Yep, you read that right.

The banker shelled out some serious dough to the Elton John AIDS Foundation in an auction during the Woodside End of Summer party to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation sponsored by Chopard and Grey Goose at Woodside in England tonight for his shining moment with Hurley.

And judging from the photo, Bharti made sure not to hold back.

The exclusive private bash, which was a mix of an end-of-summer party and also a way to raise some charitable funds for the organization, was held at Elton John and David Furnish's Berkshire mansion.

And just as expected, Hurley looked absolutely stunning in a cream mini dress and gold strappy sandals by Paul Andrew. She also draped a fur stole around her shoulders as an attempt to keep warm and accessorized with some neck and ear bling, along with a gold sparkly clutch bag.
